- In order to make your experience better and to reduce waiting times, CHI at Temple Street has introduced an on-line booking system to book appointments for blood tests.
- Please book your appointment by clicking on the link below.
- All GP appointments have to be booked online. If you call in without an appointment we will make one for you but it will be subject to available times. It is likely that the appointment will not be available on that specific day.

Directions to the Phlebotomy (Blood test) Department
The Phlebotomy Department is located on the ground floor of CHI at Temple Street’s Outpatients Department (OPD). Please enter the main entrance of the OPD and walk straight to the end of the corridor. You will then see signs for the Phlebotomy Room on the left hand side.
GP Referrals for Phlebotomy
- Please note that GP referrals are not available on Monday mornings.
- Requests for blood tests from the GP must be made on the official CHI at Temple Street blood test request forms.
What do I do when I get there?
If you have an appointment please attend 10 minutes before your appointment.
- When you arrive please take a ticket from the machine and take a seat.
- The number will be displayed on a screen to call you to be registered. Please note that all patients must take a ticket even if you have an appointment. This is so that we know that you have arrived.
- After you have registered you will be asked to take a seat in the waiting area. The Phlebotomist (person who carries out the blood test) will then call you in to do the test.
- We will try to ensure that you are seen as close to your appointment time as possible, but sometimes there can be a delay.
What happens next?
- The Phlebotomist will call you into the testing room.
- A Phlebotomist is a person who performs Phlebotomy. The Phlebotomist is trained to draw blood from a patient. Phlebotomy is the process of making an incision in a vein with a needle. The procedure is called venepuncture.
- The Phlebotomist will identify your child and confirm name and date of birth.
- The Phlebotomist will confirm the blood tests that are required based on the request on the form.
- The Phlebotomist will draw the blood from the vein (usually from the inside of your elbow or the back of the hand) into the correct tubes whilst explain the procedure to you and the child.
- The Phlebotomist will put pressure on the point of the vein that the needle was inserted into, to stop any bleeding and deliver the specimens of blood to the hospital laboratory.
How do I get the results?
The results of the blood test will be sent to the doctor who ordered it. This could be your GP or a Consultant at the hospital.
