Operating Theatre (HP)

Temple Street, Children’s University Hospital is an acute paediatric hospital with an Operating Department consisting of four operating theatres and a post anaesthetic care unit. Our Operating Department is situated on the second floor of the hospital. There are currently;

• 10 Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetists
• 23 Consultant Surgeons
• A Theatre Manager
• 2 Clinical Facilitators
• 11 Clinical Nurse Managers
• 29 Staff Nurses
• 8 Health Care Assistants
• 1 Escort nurse
• 2 Administration Assistants..

The organisation is a family-friendly one so not all of the above staff work full time.

Our hospital is a national centre for a number of specialties including;

• National Paediatric Centre for Airway Reconstruction
• National Children’s Eye Centre
• National Paediatric Craniofacial Centre
• National Paediatric Renal Transplant Centre.

The Operating Department is responsible for the paediatric surgery for these specialities and also provides additional surgery including

• Neurosurgery (brain)
• Neonatal Surgery
• Orthopaedic Surgery including Spinal surgery, (bone)
• General Paediatric Surgery
• Ear Nose and Throat (ENT)
• Genito Urinary Surgery (bladder)
• Plastic Surgery
• Ophthalmology procedures (eye procedures)
