Genetics (HP)

Temple Street Children’s University Hospital

Tel: (01) 878 4785
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
The genetic service is part of the National Centre for Medical Genetics (NCMG). We see children and adult with birth defects (also known as malformations), developmental delay & many rare inherited disorders.

We provide appointments with consultant clinical geneticists for assessment of children and/or adults to help find a diagnosis and a recurrence risk for their or their child’s condition. Appointments are also available for genetic counselling, for the discussion of risks associated with known genetic conditions in a family. For more information about Genetics in Ireland, including our TSCUH  office, please go to www.genetics.ie .

The waiting list for a routine clinic appointment is between 6-12 months. We do our best to prioritise appointments so that those families at high risk are seen earlier than families at low risk. We have recently introduced a triage system to enable us manage our long waiting list. There are some common disorders such as Down Syndrome, Neural Tube Defects (NTD) and isolated cleft lip/palate where we provide information sheets to families as we can no longer offer routine appointments.
