Our Day Ward is located on the first floor of the hospital, down the end of the long corridor near the Emergency Department, and is accessible by both a lift and stairs.
The ward is open from 7.00am -6.30pm Monday to Friday and between 18 and 26 children attend the ward every day. The Day Ward provides care for children requiring investigations and operations under general anaesthetic who go home the same day. The types of procedures include:
- Orthopaedic Surgery
- Eye Surgery
- General Surgery
- Ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery.
If you receive a letter to attend the Day Ward it is important that you follow all the written instructions you are given.
Before you leave home, you must phone the hospital at the time given in the letter to confirm if your child’s bed is available. As the hospital is on 24 hour emergency call it is not possible to guarantee your child’s bed before the morning of admission. If there is no bed available, your child’s admission may have to be postponed and you could be given a new admission date.
Important Information:
- If your child has had recent contact with or had any infectious diseases such as chickenpox, measles or the mumps, or has diarrhoea and vomiting please contact the ward.
- Due to the limited space, it is requested that only Parents/Guardians and the child come to the Day Ward.
Our highly qualified staff on the Day Ward provides a child-centered and efficient service to you and your child during your stay. We do our utmost to protect the privacy and dignity of your child at all times during their stay.
The Ward Managers are Denise Traynor and Elaine Fitzgerald.
