The Philosophy of the Children's University Hospital is that every child while in hospital should have the unbroken support of his /her parent /guardian. This is essential in order to maintain a family centered environment and to encourage parents to actively participate in the care of their child. Children also need their siblings, grandparent(s) and other family members; hence the Children's University Hospital operates a flexible visiting policy.

Visiting Times

  • Visiting is unrestricted for parents/guardians. Generally at night the hospital encourages only one parent/guardian to remain with the child.
  • Visiting hours for relatives and friends are from 2.00pm - 4 .00pm and 6.00pm to 8.00pm
  • Children visiting during the day must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
  • Visitors must leave promptly by 8.00pm via the A&E Entrance only to enable nursing staff to settle patients for the night.
  • For reasons of health and safety Hospital Management may restrict visiting at any time

Restricted Visiting

  • Staff in consultation with parents, may have to implement restricted visiting in certain circumstances i.e. a seriously ill child
  • It is advised that infants under one year of age should not visit the hospital
  • In the Baby Unit, visitors are limited to two people at any time
  • Visiting after 8.00pm is strictly for parents and guardians only.
