Temple Street Children’s University Hospital opens new Neo-Natal Unit
- National fundraising campaign with Tesco Ireland pays off
Following an extensive fundraising campaign as part of the Tesco Ireland Charity of the Year Programme 2007, the Hospital officially opened its newly redeveloped Neo-Natal Unit on the 29th January. The St Michael’s B ward cares for neo-natal patients including premature babies and infants under the age of 6 months. These babies and infants may have long-term debilitating illnesses, or be in need of surgical and/or medical care.
The Hospital fundraising office worked with Tesco Ireland staff and customers nationwide throughout 2007 to raise an incredible €1.45M which enabled the project to go ahead. Due to the success of the campaign, the Hospital has been able to redevelop this ward, improve parent facilities and effectively ensure that the facilities provided by the ward itself match the excellent care and service provided by the staff.
Speaking at the official opening, Denise Fitzgerald, CEO of the Fundraising Office said “This is a very proud day for everyone involved with Temple Street including all of the Tesco Ireland staff and customers who worked so tirelessly with us to make this new unit a reality. The St Michael’s B Ward cares for some of the most vulnerable children in the Hospital and we firmly believe that thanks to the redevelopment of this facility, we have ensured that they will receive the very best standard of care available.”
Mr John Paul O’Reilly, Tesco Commercial Director Non-Food / Mr Dermot Breen, Tesco Corporate Affairs Director said ‘We are delighted to see the redeveloped St Michael’s B Ward officially open today. The ward is a lasting legacy for the children of Ireland from all of the Tesco Ireland staff and customers who helped us to raise €1.45m for our Staff Charity of the Year in 2007. We are extremely proud to be associated with Temple Street and wish them the very best with this fantastic new ward.”
Special thanks goes to Kieran Downes, Project Manager for his tireless work on redeveloping the Ward over the last year.
Top 50 Best Companies to Work For
CUH, Temple Street have once again made it into the listing of the Top 50 Best Companies to Work For, this is the 5th year in a row that we have achieved this accolade.
The management of this hospital realise that this achievement would not have been possible without the support and dedication of each and every one of you who work tirelessly to ensure that the best possible patient care is delivered to the children we serve.
For the first time ever, the Hospital achieved ‘special recognition’ in the area of the Caring and Wellbeing, and to this end a special mention must be given to all the staff in the Occupational Health Department for driving initiatives in this area.
We have many serious challenges facing us in 2009 but the management of this hospital are committed in supporting and valuing its most important asset, its staff.
Excellence award in Cleaning & Hygiene
The Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street, was awarded the ‘SUPREME’ Award at a function run by the Irish Accommodation Services Industry (IASI) on Saturday last 7th February, 2009. This award was received for the Cleaning and Hygiene standards at the hospital. This achievement would not be possible without the commitment and dedication of a number of people, namely Derrycourt Cleaning Services and Michelle Burke, Liaison Officer between CUH and Derrycourt.
Hospitals such as the Mater Private and St Vincent’s Private were also nominated. However it was CUH who achieved the highest accolade. Well done to all and may we continue with our successes into the future.
